Backwards Prayer (Original)

£420.00

This artwork is a powerful and layered mixed-media piece that blends religious iconography with expressive abstraction and contemporary texture.

At the centre is a stylized figure with a halo—reminiscent of a saint or Christ-like icon—rendered in vibrant, chaotic splashes of paint. The face is fragmented, with bold crosses where eyes would be, suggesting themes of blindness, sacrifice, or transcendence. The golden rays of the halo, made from textured metallic strips, radiate outwards, giving a sense of divinity but also of dissonance, as they contrast with the rough, industrial OSB (or chipboard) background.

Thick layers of paint, splatters, and mixed media create an almost violent energy—red, blue, white, and green intertwine to convey emotion, turmoil, and spiritual tension. At the centre of the figure’s chest sits an ornate cross, built from metallic and reflective materials, anchoring the chaos with a symbol of faith, suffering, and endurance.

The piece feels like a dialogue between faith and fracture—sacred imagery filtered through modern pain, identity, and questioning. The combination of recycled material, abstraction, and religious symbolism gives it a raw, contemporary spirituality: part worship, part deconstruction.
